Checking flat sheets with straight edges and square corners – The Single Axis Table

The base table

Single Axis Measuring Table

Like all of our tables, the Single Axis table starts as a welded steel frame. The frame then gets powder-coated with a textured finish which makes it durable enough for use on the shop floor.

Once the frame is finished, we then mount a ground steel plate to the top using a series of leveling bolts. These bolts let us adjust the top relative to the frame. By doing this, we get a flat working surface to support your material.

After the top is leveled, we mount the linear bearings and encoders, making sure they are straight and parallel for maximum accuracy. Assemble the parts, calibrate the table using a NIST-traceable laser system, and the machine is ready to be delivered.

Heidenhain Encoder and Digital Readout

We often get asked about the durability of our machines and if they need a special clean room. The answer is, no they do not. The welded frame and ground top are durable enough to sit on the shop floor next to any production equipment. The Heidenhain encoders and readouts we use are designed for use on machine tools where there is vibration, coolant spray, and electrical noise. As a result, the machines work just fine on the floor right next to a punch press, blanking line, or other process equipment. Plug it in and it’s ready to use.

Flat Sheet Applications

If you’re manufacting flat sheets, be they sheet metal, plastics, wood, etc., then the Single Axis table might be the best solution for you. This durable, portable, shop-floor machine will allow an operator to quickly and accurately measure:

  • lenght and width
  • hole locations from edges
  • hole to hole centers

Checking corner to corner

Raytech Measuring Systems diagonal blocks
Diagonal Block Option

If you need to measure corner to corner variation for squareness, add a set of diagonal blocks to your table. One block slips into the slot of the table and rests against the fixed stop bar. The other block slides over the measuring pin. By putting your part between the blocks in opposing corners and setting the display to zero, you can then turn the part to the opposite corners and quickly and accurately measure the deviation.

Perpendicularity/Camber

Raytech Measuring Systems squareness gage
Squareness/Camber Gage Option

If you need to see if two edges are square to each other, or if you need to see if the edge of your part has camber, add a squareness gage. By placing the part flush against the fixed stop bar, you can set the dial indicator to zero, then run it down the edge of the part and see how far out of square that edge is. You can also place your part on the machine and set both ends to zero on the dial indicator. At that point, you can detect any camber in the edge of the part.

Demo Video

While pictures certainly help tell the story, seeing the machine operate tells the story better. If you’re interested, we can bring a demo table into your facility to show you how our tables work with your parts. We can also have you send us a sample part, explain your application, and we can shoot a video similar to this showing how our machine would work for you. If any of this interests you, fill out the form below and send us a message.
